Both Windows and macOS are mature and widely-used operating systems. Although many app developers strive to cater to users on both platforms, there are still some programs that only support Windows.
To accommodate Mac users in running software across different systems, numerous developers have created programs for establishing dual OS or virtual machines. These tools enable users to overcome the limitations between Windows, macOS, as well as Linux and Chromebooks. In this article, we will present two efficient methods: using Apple's Boot Camp and employing tools like OS2Go to create a portable Windows USB drive.
Although Apple has designed Boot Camp to aid users in creating a dual OS, we still advocate utilizing a third-party tool - OS2Go Tool. Why is this so? The reasons are as follows:
Portability
The principle behind OS2Go is to install and run a fully functional Windows on an external hard drive, USB flash drive, or Thunderbolt drive. Thus, once you've created a portable Windows USB, you can carry it around and use it on any computer without any operating system limitations.
Simple Operation
OS2Go's aim is to resolve users' issues as promptly as possible. With this tool, there's no need to spend time studying the theory of a dual operating system; all you need is to prepare a large enough USB drive.
Storage Space Saving
For most Mac users, their Macs don't have as much storage space as a Windows PC. However, to use Boot Camp, users need at least 64GB of free disk space for downloading and installation. With the tool OS2Go, storage space won't be an issue since you don't need to install anything directly on your Mac.
Now you can download the tool OS2Go and follow the detailed guide to create a portable Windows USB.
Step 1. Install OS2Go on your Windows computer, which will display the used space on your system drive. Insert a USB drive with a capacity larger than the used space on the system drive. Select the target USB drive and click Next to proceed.
Step 2. OS2Go will warn you that the following action will erase all data on your drive. Make sure you've backed up all important data. Click Continue to proceed.
Step 3. Adjust disk layout. The default disk layout on the target drive will be identical to the source drive. You can also edit the layout to suit your needs. Check the option if you're using an SSD as the Windows boot drive. Then, click Proceed.
Step 4. OS2Go will then begin creating the portable USB drive. This process may take some time, depending on your operating system and network conditions. Once the progress reaches 100%, the USB drive should be bootable.
Step 5. Insert the portable Windows USB and start your Mac. Press the Option/Alt key. Choose the yellow EFI Boot icon to boot from the USB drive. Then, follow the on-screen instructions to boot your Mac.
If you have sufficient free disk space and prefer to use the Apple-designed utility, you can follow the steps below to create a dual operating system.
Step 1. Check your Secure Boot setting.
确保Secure Boot设置为Full Security。通常情况下,它默认被选择。如果你将其更改为No Security,在安装Windows之前,请将其改回Full Security。
Step 2. Use Boot Camp Assistant to create a Windows partition.
Open Boot Camp Assistant, which is in the Utilities folder of your Applications folder. Follow the on-screen instructions.
Note: Boot Camp will partition your Mac drive for Windows OS installation. When prompted to set the partition size, ensure that it is at least 64GB.
Step 3. Format the Prepared Windows Partition
When Boot Camp Assistant is finished, the Windows installer starts automatically. Select the BOOTCAMP partition and click Format.
Step 4. Disconnect any unnecessary external devices. Click "Next" and follow the on-screen instructions to begin installing Windows.
Step 5. When the installation is complete, your Mac starts up in Windows. Follow the onscreen instructions to install Boot Camp and the Windows support software (drivers), restart your Mac, and finish the installation.
That's all about running Windows applications on a Mac. For cost-effectiveness and convenience, we recommend using OS2Go. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to contact our support team at support@tools.com.
