Mac OS X 10.7 is the latest release of Apple's desktop and server operating system for Macintosh computers.
Apple previewed Mac OS X 10.7 to the public on June 8, 2009, at its Worldwide Developers Conference. It was released worldwide on August 28, 2009, and sold for a single-user license price of US$29 on the Apple website and in retail stores. The low price led to much higher initial sales than its predecessor. Mac OS X 10.7 was released nearly two years after Mac OS X 10.6, the second-longest interval between successive Mac OS X versions.
Unlike previous versions of Mac OS X, the focus of Mac OS X 10.7 was on improving performance, efficiency, and reducing memory usage, with new end-user features playing a secondary role. To take advantage of modern Mac hardware, much of the operating system's software was rewritten for this release. Apple created new programming frameworks, such as OpenCL, which allow software developers to use graphics processors within their applications. This is also the first version of Mac OS X since 7.1.1 that does not support the PowerPC architecture, as Apple has shifted its focus to its current Intel-based product line.
On July 20, 2011, it was succeeded by Mac OS X Lion (version 10.7). Earlier versions continued to be offered for sale to customers who needed to upgrade first to Mac OS X 10.7 in order to then gain access to Lion, which was available primarily via the Mac App Store, an update introduced in 10.7.
Mac OS X Mac OS X 10.7 is the last version to support 32-bit Intel Core Solo and Intel Core Duo CPUs.
Just like a PC, a Mac needs to be cleaned regularly in order to function smoothly and efficiently. Windows users have it easy with CCleaner, a free utility tool that everyone knows about, which deletes all unnecessary junk files, freeing up hard drive space, especially cache or temporary internet files that take up a lot of disk space. Fortunately, Mac users can also use CleanGenius – a Mac cleaner that will remove junk files from your Mac, free up disk space, speed up your Mac, and optimize its performance.
I would recommend CleanGenius from the start, as it's free and works well on Mac OS X 10.7 (Lion).
When caches, logs, and system junk pile up, they slow down your Mac and waste precious disk space. The CleanGenius tool offers a quick and easy way to clean system caches, system logs, user caches, user logs, user download content, Trash, Safari web cache, and more with a single click.
Over time, you may have installed various software on your Mac OS X hard drive. When you drag an application to the trash, its preferences, caches, and log files remain on your drive and waste precious disk space. With CleanGenius, you can easily uninstall applications you want to remove along with their associated components and files (preferences, cache files, and log files).
CleanGenius also monitors your hard drive space and alerts you when it's running low. Then, you can clean up your Mac to free up more disk space and keep it running smoothly.
"CleanGenius is a disk monitoring and cleaning tool for OS X 10.7 or later. It not only displays the remaining space on your disk from the menu bar, but also offers a 'Quick Clean' option to clear out specific parts of your hard drive." Read more...
